Art in Heat

June 30 to July 30, 2007

John Lancaster

John was born and raised in southern Virginia. He has traveled extensively since then. He began painting and drawing in his early 20's as a way to provide gifts to people he stayed with as he bounced around the country.

After settling in Charlottesville, VA, he became more serious about it and founded the NATURE gallery with several friends in an old warehouse space in the downtown area. Through this he met his partner in crime, the painter (and his future wife) Laurel Hausler, and they went on to open Nature Visionary Arts. After seven years of operating one gallery or another they closed the doors in 2005 to devote all of their time to art making. John now resides in Alexandria, VA, with his wife and their many animals. John's art is made through an intuitive and automatic process that involves many techniques to tap into the deepest levels of his subconscious. Over the years it has evolved from purely emotional abstract paintings to the slightly more refined "illustrations" he produces today.
